A member of the highly successful Sherpa range, the Sherpa 60:70S continues Vango’s tradition of providing durable and feature-packed rucksacks at competitive prices. With a strong focus on hiking, the Sherpa is designed to accommodate every taste for the outdoor life. Whether you’re a weekend rambler or a seasoned trekker, the Sherpa will provide a safe and comfortable mode of transport for you and your belongings. And with its DofE recommendation, the Sherpa is not simply an entry-level rucksack, but one which will accompany you during many years of travel.
Vango's focus on comfort, evident across its entire range, begins on the Sherpa with its Adjustable Back System. The shoulder straps can be moved up and down to accommodate each wearer's unique back shape, as well as ensuring it is a comfortable fit for all heights. The Sherpa 60:70S is specifically designed for shorter back lengths of between 46cm to 56cm (please see our recent blog post for further information on back measurements). For this reason, the Sherpa 60:70s may be especially attractive to younger travellers undertaking their DofE. The back system, constructed on two alloy bars, allows for adjustment whilst wearing the bag, ensuring you can achieve even weight distribution and comfort whatever your load.

Working in tandem with the back system, the Sherpa's Airmesh harness ensures the free-flow of air around the back and shoulders, helping to keep you cool and comfortable on those long hikes. And in addition to their thick padding, the shoulder straps feature a wicking, breathable mesh covering, providing additional relief to common stress areas.

Vango understand the balance between strength and the need to keep overall weight to a minimum, and the Sherpa's Excel 600D Polyester canvass straddles these two boundaries with ease. This popular material, also found across our Osprey range backpacks, is designed to withstand the vicissitudes of global travel, and will work to prevent harm coming to your pack in the most challenging conditions.

The 60:70 specification indicated by the Sherpa's name refers to the two large zippable side pockets, which together add an additional 10L to the bag's 60L main compartment, giving 70L in total when in use (also referred to as 60+10L). This is quite a common feature in trekking rucksacks, and is used by a number of Lowe Alpine packs. It is also one of the main differences between the Sherpa 60:70 and the 65, where the latter is a fixed size with smaller side pockets. This makes the 60:70 a little more versatile if maximum load is your priority. The main compartment itself can be divided into two with a draw-string, ideal for keeping your rainwear and dirty clothing separate from your fresh kit.

There are two additional mini-pockets at the bottom of each side of the Sherpa, both easily accessible whilst wearing the bag. For extra-quick access to your cash, keys and valuables, there is a zippable stash pocket on the right hip-belt. Additional pockets can be found under the rucksack lid, and there is a watertight compartment the front of the bag, specifically sized to accommodate Ordinance Survey maps, but also ideal for first aid supplies, pocket towels and insect repellents.

Versatility is further enhanced by the Sherpa's dual access entry. Unlike many other top-loader-type rucksacks, access to the main compartment can also be gained from the bottom of the Sherpa, meaning your walking companions can gain quick access to your pack without firsth having to stop and set down. The top-loader access as featured on the Sherpa is the more traditional hiking variant to the increasingly popular clam shell travel backpacks, which feature a front opening, more akin to a suitcase style. It is worth checking out our range of Osprey backpacks to see the full range of accessibility options.

Vango have engineered the Sherpa with all ages, abilities and activities in mind, meaning it is fully compatible with walking poles, ice-picks, hydration systems, and additional bungee straps are provided with anchor points to keep your sleeping bag and roll flush on the main body. And with a nod to preparing the bag for transit as well as comfortable hiking, the Sherpa features side compression straps to tightly secure your contents. With cold and wet hands in mind, all zips on the Sherpa feature large plastic hooped zip-pulls, and grab handles are provided at the top and side of the bag when you to haul your kit on and off luggage racks. And speaking of transit, with the abundance of straps and features on the Sherpa, you may wish to look at our range of rucksack transit covers and carriers, useful to keep everything in place when checking in at airports, or settling down for a long bus ride between stops

Comfortable and fit for purpose and ready to go, the Vango Sherpa 60:70S will take the load and share all the ups and downs life on the move can throw at you.
