Osprey have a well-deserved reputation for being at the forefront of the constantly evolving backpack market, and their Farpoint 55 is a key milestone on this road. With the quality of its build and design, its fabrics, and the innovation of its features, it boasts durability with remarkable lightness, whilst offering supreme comfort and versatility. You get a spacious 42 litre main compartment to accommodate your longer term travelling haul, whilst the 13 litre detachable daypack services your frequently accessed essentials. The two integrate closely to provide a complete, structured luggage system with the portability and convenience of a rucksack. Osprey offer the Farpoint in two sizes – S/M and M/L - to ensure that its premium comfort can be best realised for travellers of all heights.

Like many of the new generation of travel backpacks, the Farpoint features the popular 'clam-shell' design, whereby the lid to the main compartment opens fully out in the manner of a suitcase. This contrasts with the top-loader access found on traditional rucksacks. The clam shell offers more complete access to the main compartment, and allows you to better organise your equipment. Osprey assist you with this by providing two compression straps inside, as well as a zipped mesh compartment to help separate out your clothing or in which to keep dirty laundry. Two interlocking zips are provided, which can be locked to keep the main compartment secure whilst in transit.

The shoulder straps and back system are housed in concealed, zipped panel. Once opened, this panel can be rolled up and stowed at the base of the backpack with the aid of a velcro pouch. Once the shoulder straps are in play, you then have all the advantages of a fully featured backpack. Osprey have taken all their experience in the hiking rucksack market and have bestowed it upon the Farpoint to give it a superior all-round comfort. With its padded and ventilated back panel, thick padded shoulder straps with moisture wicking and a fully padded hip-belt, it is a backpack you can happily wear for hours, and one which will forgive the most arduous conditions. The peripheral frame around which the backpack is constructed ensures it retains its shape, distributes the weight evenly around the pack, and helps transfer the load down into the buttressing of the hip-belt. Although the back system is not adjustable, with two different sizes to choose from the Farpoint does its best to accommodate everyone.

The term daypack does not really do justice to the main compartment's 13 litre companion. Unlike daypacks found on other models, the Farpoint's 13L pack is integral to the main body, attached with both a full-length and lockable zip and buckle clips. In this way, it is designed to be carried securely and comfortably with the main compartment, with no movement between the two. Once attached, compression straps on the outside of the pack can be used to keep everything tight. And, for quicker access, the daypack can also be attached to the shoulder straps of the main pack and carried 'kangaroo-style'.

The daypack also provides a number of essential carrying features, catering to your various equipment. It is here you will find a padded 15" laptop sleeve, a second internal padded mesh pocket for smaller electricals, and an external front pouch for the likes of sunglasses, toiletries or insect repellents. Finally, the daypack features two large external mesh pockets, both large enough to hold litre water bottles and plenty of food. Of course, the versatility offered by the daypack does come into its own, ideal for shorter day trips whilst the main bag is back at the hotel. You will then find it an extremely lightweight and comfortable pack all on its own, built to the same standards as the main bag.

The Farpoint features a tough 210D ripstop polyster as its main fabric, ensuring the bag is both strong and light. Foreseeing the additional stress placed on these areas, Osprey have given a thicker 600D fabric around bottom of pack and the top opening, strengthening the bag where it is more commonly used and further protecting your belongings. Thick padded grab handles are provided at the side and top of the bag, great for when you're stowing your bag in a locker or trying to retrieve it from a crowded luggage compartment. None of this support and strength affects the weight, with the Farpoint coming in at a mere 1.71kg.

Offering a versatile and grounded accompaniment to your every travelling aspiration, the Osprey Farpoint is an excellent companion to join you wherever you may land. The Farpoint 55 is available in two different back lengths, with a S/M back length for shorter travellers and women, and a M/L back length for male travellers and taller women.
