The world renowned Fairview travel pack is now available in a 65 litre wheeled version
With their range of travel backpacks having earned them a wealth of plaudits and securing them a place amongst the backpacking greats, Osprey have taken their award winning Fairview model and applied their thirst for innovation to create an even more rounded and versatile travelling companion. The result is the Farview Wheels 65, an exciting evolution which gives you the convenience of an all-purpose rolling travel bag whilst retaining the Fairview's core versatility as a backpack. Offering the traveller the best of both worlds, it is at one moment an attractive and stylish rolling duffel which can commute effortlessly through airports, train stations, bus terminals and all the transit in between. And, for those longer treks once in situ at your chosen destination, it is also a fully featured backpack with a sophisticated shoulder, back and hip-system to rival the comfort found in dedicated hiking packs. The Fairview Wheels 65 is a boon companion for any traveller, enjoying all environments encountered - built, urban, pastoral and trail - and gives another dimension to the award winning suite of backpacks.

Unlike the Fairview backpack which opens out in the popular "clam-shell" fashion, the Fairview Wheels opens more like a duffel. The large front opening travels almost the full length of the bag (save for a few inches at the top), thus ensuring any oversized luggage itmes such as walking poles, packable tents and foldable furniture can easily be accommodated. Similarly, if you're a business traveller looking for a versatile luggage solution, you need look no further. The Fairview is superb for housing all manner of equipment from tripods, presentation screens and samples. Inside the main compartment, there are two sets of compression straps to help keep your gear steady and secure. They also help to spread the weight of the pack evenly across your back, which makes for a more comfortable experience when the Farview is in full backpack mode.

To help organise your pack, two separate mesh compartments are situated on the inside of the front panel, perfectly sized to house Osprey's extensive range of packing cubes, or somewhere to stash your smalls. The front panel itself is kept secure by a diligent extra-thick zipper, which is given further protection with two chunky "kissing" zips which can be locked together when in the closed position. For those items you need quick access to when on the move, there are two large mesh pockets on the outside of the front panel, great for keeping water bottles handy, or if you find yourself off the beaten track these additionl pockets will come in useful for lotions and repellents. Finally, at the top of the pack there two additional pockets, both zippable and divided from the rest of the pack by a water-resistant lining making them an excellent repository for your towels, soaps and wash-room gear.

On the outside of the Fairview, compression straps are found at the top and bottom, helping to "straitjacket" the pack when fully loaded. The stability this helps achieves really comes into its own when carrying the bag as a backpack, and eliminates any "wobble" you might find packs which do not allow for such compression. The trekking heritage which imbues the pack is evident by additional touches on the outside. The six extra-thick bungee strap points at the top, bottom and sides of the bag will be immediately recognised by outdoor enthusiasts as allowing for additional items such as tents, sleeping bags and bed rolls, to be affixed. Further expansion potential is given with the compatibility with the Osprey Daylite backpacks, which can be worn in "kangaroo" fashion when wearing the Farpoint Wheels as a backpack.

If producing the classic fusion of wheeled convenience and backpack versatility presented any technical difficulties, then Osprey have pulled off the remarkable feat of ensuring they are not evident. The back system is actually an improvement from the already comfortable experience given by the Fairview model, and instead uses the floating mesh back system found on Osprey's dedicated hiking packs. Allowing the air to flow around your back and shoulders, this sets the Fairview Wheels apart from many other wheeled backpacks, where the back systems can often be rudimentary, and whose backpack function is best confined to temporary only. This showcases the Fairview's ever adapting personality, that no matter where you are - commuting through an airport or on en route to your hostel - the heritage flowing through the pack still evokes that basic yearning for the outdoors. The Farview Wheels is truly "back-ready".

The shoulder straps and back system are housed in concealed, zipped panel. Once opened, this panel can be rolled up and stowed at the base of the backpack with the aid of a velcro pouch. Once the shoulder straps are in play, you then have all the advantages of a fully featured backpack. It boasts Osprey's Airspeed floating ventilated mesh back panel, thick padded shoulder straps with moisture wicking and a fully padded hip-belt. It is a backpack you can happily wear for hours, and one which will forgive even the most arduous conditions. The additional alloy structure necessary to house the pull-handle is not allowed to interfere in the slightest with the comfort of the backpack, and is kept unobtrusive and separate from the shoulder and back areas. On the other hand, the peripheral frame around which the backpack is constructed ensures it retains its shape, distributes the weight evenly around the pack, and helps transfer the load down into the buttressing of the hip-belt.

The Fairview Wheels features two fabrics. The body is based on Osprey's super-tough 500D high tenacity ripstop nylon to give the bag extra strength where it's most needed. The front panel is made from the slightly ligther 210D nylon, and both fabrics are treated with a durable water resistant coating. The same structural integrity is immediately evident when using the bag as a wheeled holdall. The strong alloy pull-handle inspires confidence, as do the all-terrain wheels. The thick padded grab handles at the top and sides of the bag continue the theme of solidity and integrity, assuring you this is a companion which match you mile for mile, helping you with all your travelling endeavourds.
