In the arena of rucksack design and innovation, Berghaus are widely considered to be the original trail blazers and industry leaders and so it has been for more than 40 years. Their reputation for innovation and setting industry standards began with the introduction in the 1970s of what was arguably the world’s first internal frame rucksack. A few years later they were the first European brand to incorporate the industry changing GORE-TEX fabric into some of their products.
Berghaus outdoor clothing and gear is designed and manufactured by climbers and mountaineers for climbers and mountaineers and all those who demand high quality, extreme comfort and functionality in pursuit of their outdoor adventures.
The brand was the brainchild of two British climbers/mountaineers who began designing and manufacturing outdoor gear in the 1960s and the success story of Berghaus in the decades which follow reads almost like a fairy story.
Endorsed and worn by many famous faces including mountaineer Sir Chris Bonnington, Berghaus have always worked in close conjunction with expert climbers, mountaineers and adventurers.
In the 1980s Berghaus were one of the first outdoor companies to develop ranges designed specifically for women. In the 1990s Berghaus added footwear to its existing product range and introduced the GORE-TEX Paclite range of outerwear. These highly waterproof, windproof and breathable items became the lightest and smallest items on the market proving once again that Berghaus ‘leads where others follow’.
